Abstract
Abstract
The Quranic style is distinguished by its pictorial nature; it addresses the imagination and the emotions just as it addresses the intellect. It exerts a unique influence by vividly portraying meanings to the recipient and rendering them within the imagination through sensory imagery or concrete scenes—transforming abstract concepts into vivid mental vistas that appear as tangible, observable realities. Upon close examination of the letters and words of the Holy Quran, one finds nothing that deviates from the established linguistic norms of the Arabs, whether ancient or modern. Yet, when reciting the verses of God, one senses that the Quranic expression possesses a distinctive character; sentence structures are built upon this foundation to delineate the artistic imagery of the unique Quranic composition—a composition marked by perfect consistency and coherence.
This research aims to highlight the rhetorical imagery found in certain Quranic verses concerning knowledge and ignorance, and to reveal the expressive power of their rhetoric in conveying their underlying purposes, virtues, and benefits. This is achieved by examining verses containing the terms "knowledge" and "ignorance"—along with their linguistic derivatives—and analyzing them using a descriptive-analytical approach. The study comprises an introduction, three sections—covering simile (*tashbih*), metaphor (*majaz*), and metonymy/allusion (*kinaya*)—and a conclusion summarizing the findings. Key findings include the observation that illustrative metaphors function much like proverbs; they paint vivid, tangible images that engage the mind and senses alike, thereby reinforcing the meaning and clarifying the concept with precision that leaves a lasting impression.
Keywords: Rhetoric, Imagery, Knowledge, Ignorance.
