Abstract This study examines the representations of culture and religion in Days in Niger by the Saudi traveler Mohammed Nasser Al-Aboudi through a critical approach belonging to the fields of cultural studies and travel literature. It aims to reveal how the image of Nigerien society was constructed within the travel discourse and to identify the cultural and religious patterns that governed the formation of this image. The study adopts the cultural approach as both a theoretical and methodological framework for textual analysis, focusing on the representation of place, the individual, social customs, and religious institutions, while elucidating the narrative, descriptive, and discursive mechanisms that contributed to the production of meaning in the travel account. The study concludes that Al-Aboudi presented a balanced cultural representation of Nigerien society, through which he revealed the richness of its social structure and cultural diversity while highlighting the values of coexistence, hospitality, and shared civilizational belonging. The findings further demonstrate that religion functioned as the central frame of reference for interpreting and evaluating Nigerien reality, and that Islam emerged in the text as a unifying element among the various components of society and as a fundamental component of cultural identity. The study also shows that Al-Aboudi’s travel discourse transcended its purely descriptive function to perform cognitive, missionary, and reformist roles. Moreover, the narrative structure of the book was founded on the interaction between narration, documentation, description, and interpretation, thereby endowing the text with distinctive literary, cultural, and documentary value. The study concludes that Days in Niger constitutes an important model of contemporary Arabic travel literature that contributes to the construction of knowledge about the Other and to the re-representation of culture and religion in the African Islamic space.
