Abstract
Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the relationship between personality traits and anxiety among women attending psychiatric clinics in the Gaza Strip. The study sample consisted of (212) women, purposively selected from among those attending psychiatric clinics affiliated with the Aisha Association. To achieve the study objectives, the researcher employed the NEO Five-Factor Inventory (NEO-FFI) to measure personality dimensions, along with the anxiety subscale drawn from a broader psychological disorders scale developed by the researcher. The study adopted a descriptive correlational design, and data were analyzed using SPSS. The findings revealed that anxiety levels among participants were relatively elevated, with neuroticism emerging as the personality trait most strongly associated with anxiety, whereas traits such as conscientiousness and extraversion were correlated with lower anxiety levels. Furthermore, statistically significant differences in anxiety levels were found in relation to age and economic status, while no substantial differences were observed concerning marital status. The study recommended the implementation of preventive interventions targeting women with high neuroticism to reduce their likelihood of developing anxiety disorders.
