Abstract This study examines the term “Waḍʿ” وضع)) and its derivatives in the Holy Qur’an. It adopts an inductive and analytical approach by identifying the occurrences of the term in the Qur’an, examining its meanings and usages, and classifying its types according to the agent from whom the act of waḍʿ originates and according to whether it denotes praise or blame. The study consists of an introduction and a preliminary section addressing the meaning of waḍʿ, followed by three chapters. The first chapter examines the occurrences of the term and its meanings in the Holy Qur’an. The second discusses the types of waḍʿ according to the agent from whom it originates in the Qur’an. The third explores the types of waḍʿ according to their connotations of praise or blame. The study concludes with a conclusion presenting its most significant findings, followed by indexes of the sources and references.
