Abstract
Abstract
The study aimed to identify the level of existential attitudes and psychological immunity among cancer patients in Yemen، examine the nature of the relationship between existential attitudes and psychological immunity، and determine whether there were differences in existential attitudes and psychological immunity according to selected demographic and clinical variables، namely gender، age، marital status، and duration of illness.
The study sample consisted of 83 cancer patients from the National Oncology Center and the National Cancer Foundation. The researchers used the Existential Attitudes Scale، developed by Mohammed Ahmed Saafan (2008)، and the Psychological Immunity Scale، developed by the researchers. The validity and reliability of the Psychological Immunity Scale were established in accordance with the methodological procedures followed in the study. The study employed a descriptive-analytical research design.
The findings showed that the level of existential attitudes among cancer patients was moderate. The guilt dimension ranked first، followed by death، illness، and pain، respectively، with all dimensions falling within the moderate level. The findings also indicated that the level of psychological immunity among cancer patients was high.
Furthermore، the results revealed a statistically significant relationship between existential attitudes and psychological immunity among cancer patients. However، the proportion of variance in psychological immunity explained by existential attitudes was limited، as existential attitudes accounted for approximately 5.2% of the variance in psychological immunity، with the relationship being negative (inverse). This finding suggests that existential attitudes are not the only factors that may contribute to strengthening psychological immunity among cancer patients.
Regarding differences according to demographic and clinical variables، the findings indicated that there were no statistically significant differences in existential attitudes or psychological immunity attributable to gender، age، marital status، or duration of illness.
Keywords: Existential Attitudes، Psychological Immunity، Cancer Patients، Yemen، Guilt، Pain، Illness، Death.
