Abstract There has been a lot of talk about the origin of language, how languages came about, whether they are from God and known to Adam—which is the perspective of the divine religions—or whether they are just conventions, agreements, or imitations. Then, there has also been much discussion about the originality of words: whether they are all equally original, or if some are derived from others. It is widely known among the Basri scholars that the origin is the root, while the Kufi scholars consider the verb as the origin, and everything else as branches of these, depending on the perspective. This was the idea behind this research, focusing on whether the root is the origin of both noun and verb, or if the verb is the origin for the noun and the root. The research problem revolves around the origin of words: is it the root, the verb, or the noun? The goal of the study is to determine the linguistic origin of words. The research relies on the inductive, descriptive, and then analytical approach. The study is structured with an introduction followed by a discussion in which the names of body parts are organized alphabetically. This recent research focused only on the names of head parts: the eye, ear, tongue, lips, and so on, to keep the research concise. The study reached several conclusions: that the noun is the origin of the verb, the root, the adjective, and other names that are all derived from it, either literally or figuratively.
