Abstract This study examines the doctrinal issues related to the pillars of worship, with particular attention to clarifying their proper understanding and addressing views that deviate from the creed of Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jama‘ah. It begins by defining worship, explaining its essential nature, and highlighting its central status in Islam. The study aims to clarify the concept of worship and to identify its three fundamental pillars: love, fear, and hope. It further explains the significance of each pillar, its role in realizing servitude to Allah Almighty, and the interrelationship among these three elements. The study establishes that worship in Islam is a comprehensive concept encompassing all inward and outward words and deeds that Allah Almighty loves and is pleased with. It also discusses the conditions for the acceptance of worship, namely Islam, sincerity to Allah Almighty, and conformity to the teachings and example of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), emphasizing that these conditions must be fulfilled collectively for worship to be valid and accepted. The study also explores the status of worship in Islam and its effects on the life of the Muslim, particularly in relation to purification of the heart, upright conduct, and steadfastness in religion. Special attention is given to the three pillars of worship—love, fear, and hope—by explaining the nature and function of each. The study argues that these pillars are inseparably interconnected and that complete servitude to Allah cannot be realized without their proper combination and balance. Love constitutes the foundation of worship, fear restrains the believer from disobedience, and hope motivates the performance of acts of obedience. Furthermore, the study examines the various approaches adopted regarding the pillars of worship and analyzes forms of deviation arising from excessive emphasis on one pillar or the neglect of another, together with the doctrinal and behavioral consequences of such imbalance. It demonstrates that the methodology of Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jama‘ah is founded upon the integration of love, fear, and hope without separating one from the others, thereby reflecting the balanced approach established by the Qur’an and the Sunnah. The study concludes that realizing the pillars of worship in accordance with the methodology of the righteous predecessors (al-Salaf al-Salih) is among the means of preserving sound creed, purifying the heart, maintaining upright conduct, and remaining steadfast in religion. It further concludes that the effects of worship extend beyond the individual, contributing to spiritual purification, social reform, and societal stability.
