Abstract This study examines elegy in the poetry of Mohammed bin Abdul Muttalib from both thematic and artistic perspectives، aiming to identify its most prominent characteristics and artistic features. The study adopts an integrative approach based on the analysis of poetic texts and the examination of their thematic and artistic dimensions. The introductory section presents the poet’s biography and discusses the concept and types of elegy. The first chapter explores the thematic aspects of elegy، focusing on elegies dedicated to public figures، scholars، and religious leaders، while highlighting the principal values and meanings embodied in these poems. The second chapter investigates the artistic aspects of the poems، including the structure of the poem through its opening، introduction، conclusion، unity of the verse، and unity of the poem، in addition to examining diction and syntactic structures and their stylistic and semantic characteristics. The study concludes that elegy occupies a central position in the poet’s collection and is distinguished by sincere emotion، strong religious and national values، and adherence to the traditional structure of the classical Arabic poem. It also reveals the poet’s careful selection of powerful and eloquent vocabulary and his effective use of stylistic devices appropriate to the elegiac genre، contributing to the artistic coherence of his poetry and highlighting his place among the poets of the Neo-Classical (Revival) School in modern Arabic literature.
