Abstract
Abstract
This study examines partnership with non-Muslims in the Prophetic Sunnah by defining the concept, distinguishing it from other forms of interaction such as coexistence, benevolence, and kindness, analyzing its models, and deriving the criteria governing it. The study employs the inductive method to identify relevant texts and Prophetic accounts, the analytical method to examine their implications, and the deductive method to derive the governing criteria of partnership. It addresses four principal models: contractual partnership based on covenant and commitment, partnership in confronting a common threat, practical partnership in work and production, and partnership in supporting the oppressed and restoring rights. The study also derives five governing criteria: the legitimacy of the objective, competence and trustworthiness in selecting a partner, clarity of commitments and fulfillment of obligations, protection of rights and prevention of injustice, and preservation of Islamic religious authority and foundational principles. The findings show that partnership is more specific than general interaction with non-Muslims, as it involves a defined objective and a contribution or commitment by the parties concerned. The Prophetic Sunnah demonstrates that such partnerships may take diverse forms and are not confined to a single field. The study further concludes that the mere existence of a partnership does not establish its legitimacy; rather, it remains subject to criteria governing its objectives, parties, commitments, and rights, while Islamic religious authority continues to define its limits. This provides a balanced framework that permits cooperation in legitimate interests and safeguards rights without treating religious difference as an absolute barrier to partnership or allowing partnership to override Islamic rulings and foundational principles.
