Abstract

This study aims to develop an integrated methodological framework for the formation and qualification of Qur’anic exegetes through scientific, methodological, practical, and ethical training. It seeks to clarify the concept of exegete formation, identify its fundamental components, and outline the stages required to develop exegetical competence by integrating theoretical foundations with practical application. The study addresses the fragmentation of discussions concerning the qualifications, ethics, and essential disciplines of Qur’anic exegetes across classical scholarship and contemporary research, highlighting the need to organize these elements within a coherent and progressive training framework.
The study employs inductive and analytical approaches. It examines classical and contemporary scholarly discussions concerning the qualifications, competencies, methodological tools, and ethical responsibilities of Qur’anic exegetes. These materials are then analyzed and classified to establish an integrated framework connecting foundational knowledge, methodological skills, practical training, and continuous assessment.
The findings indicate that the formation of a Qur’anic exegete extends beyond the acquisition of isolated disciplines and requires a comprehensive, progressive process of intellectual development, methodological training, practical application, and performance evaluation. The study emphasizes the central role of Arabic linguistic sciences in understanding and analyzing Qur’anic meanings, as well as the significance of Islamic legal theory (Usul al-Fiqh) in regulating interpretation, evaluating competing interpretations, and preventing unsupported readings of Qur’anic texts. It further establishes that ethical formation is an essential component of exegetical qualification, encompassing sincerity, academic integrity, intellectual humility, careful verification, objectivity, and fairness in evaluating scholarly opinions.
The study recommends developing structured educational programs that integrate Qur’anic sciences, Arabic linguistics, principles of Qur’anic interpretation, and Islamic legal theory. It also calls for linking theoretical instruction with practical exegetical training, incorporating methodological and ethical development, implementing continuous assessment, and conducting further applied studies to evaluate and improve the proposed framework.
