Abstract

Abstract

The witness holds a very powerful role in linguistic lessons and is used to explain the meanings of words, establish grammatical changes, distinguish meanings in structures, and outline rules of composition. The poetic witness, in particular, stands out from other types of witnesses because of its precedence, the clarity of its form, ease of memorization, wide dissemination, and reliance on it in other sciences like history, genealogy, and chronology. In the book (Tafsir Asma’ Allah al-Husna by Al-Zajjaj), the poetic witness had a distinct presence. Al-Zajjaj, the great linguistic scholar, gave the poetic witness a special emphasis. This study revolves around the poetic witness in (Tafsir Asma’ Allah al-Husna) and aims to analyze Al-Zajjaj’s method of employing linguistic witnesses. It relies on both descriptive and analytical approaches. The research is organized into an introduction and a presentation where the witnesses are narrated according to their occurrence, analyzed, and Al-Zajjaj’s approach to citing them is classified, ending with a conclusion summarizing a number of findings related to the book. The research reached many conclusions, most notably that Al-Zajjaj used the witness to indicate meaning, origin, derivation, or usage, in addition to providing a broader explanation of his methodology in his book.
