Abstract This study aimed to develop a contextual dictionary of Saudi cultural terms in Modern Arabic for non-native speakers, in response to the need for a lexicographical resource that integrates vocabulary learning with an understanding of its cultural specificity and presents lexical items in contemporary linguistic contexts that help learners comprehend their meanings and uses. The study employed the descriptive-analytical approach, drawing on Semantic Field Theory and Context Theory in collecting, classifying, and analyzing the lexical material. The dictionary entries were drawn from the Riyadh Dictionary of Contemporary Arabic and Ahmed Mukhtar Omar’s Dictionary of Contemporary Arabic Language. To identify contextual usages, constructions, and collocations, the study also utilized selected corpora from the Falak Linguistic Corpora Platform that were relevant to the subject matter of the dictionary. The study resulted in the development of a contextual dictionary comprising 104 entries, classified into five semantic fields: food and beverages; clothing and adornment; housing and traditional tools; folk arts and crafts; and the desert, camels, horsemanship, and falconry. The entries were treated in a way that illustrates their meanings, contexts, collocations, cultural information, and semantic relations, with the use of appropriate images and visual elements. The findings highlighted the importance of integrating meaning, context, and culture in developing dictionaries for non-native speakers of Arabic. The study recommended expanding the development of culturally oriented contextual dictionaries, utilizing linguistic corpora in lexicographical work, and incorporating Saudi cultural vocabulary into Arabic language programs for non-native speakers.
