Designing a Computer Software to Develop Environmental Education among School Students in the Suburbs of Yemeni Cities

Abstract

The research aimed at designing a computer software to develop environmental education among school students in the suburbs of Yemeni cities, and to know the effect of the difference in demographic variables for teachers and students in the suburbs of cities in terms of gender (male - female), city (Sana'a- Amran), category (teacher - student), and school (public - private) on their opinions on environmental problems. The research uses descriptive, analytical, and constructive methodology. The researcher designed a questionnaire to detect environmental problems and distributed it to a sample of secondary school teachers and students. The number was (335) teachers and students. Objectives, content, and scenario were prepared as an input for designing the software. The most important results of the research are that the general average level of environmental problems in the suburbs of Yemeni cities from the point of view of secondary school teachers and students was at a high level, and the problems of desertification ranked first at a high level, followed by the problems of weak environmental education, then the problems of waste, and in the last place the problems of pollution.. The results also confirmed that there is no effect of the difference in demographic variables of teachers and students in the suburbs of cities in terms of gender and school type on their opinions about environmental problems in the suburbs of Yemeni cities. There is an impact of the difference in demographic variables for teachers and students in the suburbs of cities, in terms of city in favor of the city of Sana'a, and category in favor of the teacher category, on their opinions on environmental problems in the suburbs of Yemeni cities. A software includes instructions, general objectives of the software, and software modules.
