Abstract

It aims to highlight the efforts made by Tamil-speaking scholars in translating Tafsir books from Arabic and Urdu with an evaluation of them. I started it with an introduction, in which I mentioned the objectives of the research, its importance, previous studies and its limits, then followed it with three chapters and a conclusion that included the results and recommendations. I followed the descriptive and critical approach in the research, where I describe the common Tamil translations of a number of Tafsir books with a general critique of their contents. In each book, I mention the name of the book in Arabic, then I mention the title mentioned in the translation in Tamil, then I introduce the original book and its content, then I introduce the translator, then I describe the edition, then I conclude it with an evaluation of the translation. The study concluded with a number of results, the most important of which are: * The presence of scientific, methodological and technical notes in the Tamil translations of some books of interpretation. * The need to retranslate some translated books due to the poor quality of the current translation and its poor coordination. * The absence of specialists in Quranic studies within the translation team, which led to some unsuccessful choices.
