Abstract

This study aimed to explore and develop the concept of agritourism in the Sultanate of Oman by identifying the requirements for enhancing this tourism model and examining the perspectives of stakeholders involved in its development in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate. Additionally, the study sought to assess the role of agritourism in local community development from the residents' point of view. Data was collected through a questionnaire covering various aspects, including awareness of agritourism, past experiences, challenges, and available opportunities. A randomly selected sample of 227 individuals from the local community in North Al Sharqiyah participated in the study. The results revealed that 53.7% of participants were not previously aware of the concept of agritourism, whereas 83.3% had visited local farms before. Among them, 47.2% described their experience as good, while 32.2% rated it as excellent. Most participants agreed that agritourism represents an opportunity to enhance the local economy and provide unique and enjoyable tourism experiences. However, they emphasized the need for infrastructure improvements and increased awareness of the benefits of this tourism model. Additionally, they highlighted the importance of greater government support in developing agritourism.
