Abstract

The research at hand aims to correct an error in the attribution of one of the earliest commentaries on the Ra’iyyah poem titled (Aqīlat Aṭrāb al-Qaṣā'id fī Asnā al-Maqāṣid). In one of its editions, the commentary was attributed to Imām Muḥammad ibn Sulaymān al-Ma‘āfirī (d. 672 AH) , while in two other editions, it was attributed to Imām Muḥammad ibn al-Qaffāl (d. after 628 AH). The research is organized into two main sections: The first section focuses on correcting the error in attributing the commentary to Imām al-Ma‘āfirī and Imām Ibn al-Qaffāl, and the second section highlights some methodological features of this commentary. This follows an introductory section that discusses the various editions of the commentary, its attribution in these editions, and the existing manuscript copies in global manuscript libraries. The research adopts both the inductive and descriptive-analytical methodologies. One of the most significant findings of this research is that the correct author of this commentary is Imām al-Muqriʾ Abū ʿAbdullāh Jamāl al-Dīn Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan al-Fāsī (d. 656 AH).
