Abstract

This study examines the principle of Preferential Weighting based on the Peculiarity of the Isnad, a critical method employed by Hadith scholars to distinguish between conflicting narrations. The research aims to define Isnad peculiarity and explore its application as a weighting criterion through an analysis of the opinions of renowned scholars such as Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal, Al-Daraqutni, and Abu Hatim Al-Razi. Furthermore, the study presents practical applications of this principle in Hadith criticism, clarifying cases where it serves as either a supporting or weakening factor. Using an inductive and analytical approach, the research concludes that an unusual Isnad can sometimes indicate accuracy and retention, while in other cases, it may signal an error, depending on the broader critical context.
