Abstract

This research addresses the status of the human being in Islam by reviewing the commandments of Luqman, the man whose family dialogue was praised by the Qur’an, without reference to his societal status. The study also reveals the human values encompassed within his counsel. I have followed a descriptive and analytical approach in examining the character of Luqman and his commandments to his son, supported by the Qur’anic methodology in its treatment of human dialogues. The findings of the study are as follows: Luqman’s commandments encompasses the most important matters that highlight the human being’s status on earth. His advice also underscores the key human values that govern a person’s relationship with God and with the surrounding beings.
