Abstract
This study aimed to analyze the role of volunteer work in promoting values among secondary school students in Makkah Al-Mukarramah, present proposals to enhance the role of volunteer work in developing values, and reveal statistically significant differences attributed to the variables of gender and the number of times participating in volunteer work. The study adopted the descriptive approach with its analytical and survey methods. A questionnaire was designed to measure the role of volunteer work in developing moral values (14 statements) and to measure the role of volunteer work in developing faith values (10 statements). It was distributed to a stratified random sample of 718 male and female students from Makkah Al-Mukarramah schools during the first semester of 1446 AH. The results also showed that volunteer work contributes positively to promoting moral values (mean 3.50, standard deviation 0.60) and faith values (mean 3.60, standard deviation 0.70), with a more pronounced impact on faith values as a result of the religious context of the city. No statistically significant differences were recorded between the sexes, while an increase in the number of times people participated in volunteer work was associated with a significant increase in the level of values. In light of these results, the study made a number of recommendations and proposals to enhance the role of volunteer work in developing values.
