Abstract

This research aims to collect the unique contributions (infirādāt) of Imam Al-Qaydi (d. 618 AH) in his book "Hijāʾ al-Muṣḥaf", support them with evidence from ancient manuscript copies of the Qur’an, and conduct an analytical and comparative study of these contributions. The study employs the historical method for presenting the biography of the author and the analytical-comparative method for addressing the research topics. The research consists of an introduction and a preliminary section that introduces Qur’anic manuscripts and their impact on the science of Rasm al-Muṣḥaf (Orthography of the Qur’an), comprising two main topics: 1. Introduction to influential Qur’anic manuscripts in the science of orthography. 2. The role of manuscript copies in enriching the Qur’anic library. This is followed by two main chapters: - Chapter One introduces Imam Al-Qaydi and his book Hijāʾ al-Muṣḥaf, and includes four sections: 1. A brief biography of Abū Yaʿqūb Yūsuf al-Qaydi. 2. The scholarly significance of Hijāʾ al-Muṣḥaf. 3. Al-Qaydi’s sources in his book. 4. The impact of Al-Qaydi’s unique contributions on the science of Qur’anic orthography. - Chapter Two presents an applied study of manuscript evidence supporting Al-Qaydi’s unique contributions in his book Hijāʾ al-Muṣḥaf, covering the portion from the beginning of Sūrat Āl ʿImrān to the end of Sūrat al-Anʿām. A total of ten instances were documented and analyzed. The study concludes with a summary of key findings and recommendations, the most notable of which are: 1. The importance of ancient Qur’anic manuscripts and their role in preserving issues related to the Ottoman orthography. 2. A recommendation to further study ancient Qur’anic manuscripts and compare their content with the transmitted views of scholars in Rasm al-Muṣḥaf, establishing connections between them.
