Abstract
Abstract: This study aims to: - Identify the concepts of places for relieving oneself in both ancient and modern contexts. - Examine previous writings on the remembrance of Allah Almighty in bathrooms and places of relieving oneself. - Clarify the ruling on mentioning Allah Almighty in such places. - Determine the specific ruling concerning modern bathrooms. Methodology: The research adopts the inductive, descriptive, analytical, and deductive methods. Key Findings: - The preponderant opinion among scholars is the dislike (karāhah) of mentioning Allah Almighty in toilets and places of relieving oneself. - Jurists agree on the permissibility of mentioning Allah Almighty in bathhouses, as the prohibition pertains to entering them, with the reason being the exposure of nakedness that was common in such public facilities. - Modern bathrooms resemble the old toilets, latrines, and privies in that they are used for relieving oneself, while they are similar to ancient bathhouses in being places for bathing. However, they differ in that impurities are immediately flushed away outside the building. Keywords: lavatory – privy – toilet – latrine – bathroom.
