Abstract

Abstract Praise be to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah. This study addresses the critical edition of the chapter on the Prophetic Sunnah by al-Amīr al-Kabīr Muḥammad al-Sanbāwī. The research aims to elucidate the discussions pertaining to the Sunnah, including the definition of the Prophetic Sunnah; the inclusion of the statements, actions, and tacit approvals (taqrīrāt) of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) within the Sunnah; the incorporation of his intentions and heartfelt actions into the definition of the Sunnah; the infallibility (ʿiṣmah) of the prophets (peace be upon them), which is established by religious evidence rather than rational necessity; the protection of the infallible from Satanic lapses as opposed to divinely merciful ones; the fact that natural human dispositions (al-amr al-jiblī) are not subject to commands or prohibitions but are rather permissible; the explanatory role of the Sunnah; the classification of the Prophet's actions (peace and blessings be upon him) in terms of obligation, recommendation, and natural dispositions; the division into mutawātir (mass-transmitted) and āḥād (singularly transmitted) reports; and the obligation upon the muftī to act upon singular reports (khabar al-wāḥid) in issuing fatwas, as well as in testimony and judicial rulings. The study concludes that the Prophetic Sunnah constitutes an independent source of evidence for deriving Islamic legal rulings. Keywords: (Sunnah – Mutawātir – Āḥād – Revelation – Sharīʿah)
