Abstract
Abstract This study An Inductive Hadith the narrations concerning whether the Prophet ﷺ performed the funeral prayer for his son Ibrahim (may Allah be pleased with him). The narrations addressing this issue amount to fourteen reports. The study demonstrates that no authentic evidence has been established proving that the Prophet ﷺ refrained from performing the funeral prayer for his son. Reports affirming that he did pray for him total eleven narrations: six are musnad reports that are not authentically established, while five are weak mursal reports. The strongest evidence in this regard consists of the mursal report of Muḥammad al-Bāqir, followed by the mursal reports of al-Bahī and ʿAṭāʾ. The indication of these mursal reports affirming that the Prophet ﷺ prayed for Ibrahim is stronger than the reports suggesting otherwise, particularly in light of the improbability that the Prophet ﷺ would perform funeral prayers for other children while refraining from doing so for his own son. The study Objectively further includes a juristic analysis of the conflicting narrations (mukhtalif al-ḥadīth) resulting from the apparent contradiction among these reports, which led to scholarly disagreement regarding the ruling on performing the funeral prayer for a child. It also discusses the scholarly justifications offered to explain the claim that the Prophet ﷺ did not perform the funeral prayer for Ibrahim. The study concludes with several key findings, most notably: 1. No authentic report has been established proving that the Prophet ﷺ refrained from performing the funeral prayer for Ibrahim. 2. All musnad narrations affirming that the funeral prayer was performed are weak. 3. The mursal reports affirming that the Prophet ﷺ prayed for him may be considered for supportive evidence, particularly given the improbability of abandoning the funeral prayer for Ibrahim while performing it for other children. Keywords: Conflicting Hadiths; Funeral Prayer; Ibrahim.
