Abstract

This research examines the Sunnah, its methods of deriving rulings from it, and the challenges it faces. The research aims to highlight the role of the Prophetic Sunnah as a primary source of Islamic legislation. It clarifies the methodology for deriving rulings from hadiths and accurately understanding legal judgments. It also addresses objections raised against the Sunnah and methods of scholarly refutation. The researcher reached the following conclusions: The Prophetic Sunnah is a fundamental source of Islamic legislation alongside the Holy Quran, and a complete understanding of Islamic law is impossible without referring to it. Methods of deriving rulings from the Sunnah depend on a precise understanding of the hadith's wording and meanings, in accordance with the rules of grammar, rhetoric, and the principles of jurisprudence. The study also demonstrated that scholars developed a rigorous methodology for verifying the authenticity of hadiths in terms of both their chain of transmission (isnad) and their content (matn), thus strengthening the reliability of the Sunnah. Furthermore, objections related to the Sunnah, whether concerning transmission or meaning, do not weaken its authority if addressed according to the scientific methodology of hadith and its principles. The comparison between scholarly methodologies also revealed that the hadith scholars' approach to evaluating narrations is among the most precise critical methodologies in human scholarship.

The researcher recommended strengthening the focus on Hadith studies in educational and research programs due to their direct impact on the authenticity and understanding of the Sunnah. She also recommended encouraging applied research that connects the Sunnah with Islamic jurisprudence and clarifies the methodology of deriving rulings from Hadith texts. Furthermore, she emphasized the importance of providing scholarly responses to doubts raised about the Sunnah through contemporary studies that highlight the strength of the Hadith methodology in its critical analysis.
