This research examines the jurisprudential opinions of Imam Ibn Surayj al-Shafi'i in which he differed from the Shafi'i school of thought regarding the chapter on Tayammum in the Book of Purification. The aim of this research is to study the biography of Imam Ibn Surayj (may God have mercy on him). This study highlights his jurisprudential standing and his meticulous attention to evidence, clarifying the issues on which he differed from the Shafi'i school of thought and comparing his opinions with those of other schools of Islamic jurisprudence. Imam Ibn Surayj was chosen due to his prominent scholarly position within the Shafi'i school. He is considered one of the leading scholars of the Shafi'i school, possessing immense scholarly authority that made him a veritable encyclopedia of jurisprudence in his time. He was among the most influential scholars in disseminating the Shafi'i school, and his differing opinions on these matters demonstrate his stature, his independent reasoning, his objectivity, and his adherence to the evidence he deemed sound.


The research concluded with several key findings, including:


1 - The high standing of Imam Ibn Surayj among the Shafi'i school of thought, where his pronouncements are highly regarded, his opinions are followed, and his choices and support are cited as evidence.


2- Examining the opinions of such a learned jurist and studying them through comparative jurisprudence grants the student of knowledge a strong grasp of jurisprudence, intellectual rigor, precision in understanding and deduction, and the ability to discuss legal issues.


3 - Imam Ibn Surayj left behind a significant legacy of writings and debates that remain lost. Students of knowledge should seek them out, verify them, and preserve them.
