Abstract

Abstract This research focuses on the study and critical edition of a manuscript entitled “A Problem and Its Resolution Concerning the Obligation of Ablution and the Wisdom Behind Its Command in the Verse of al-Mā’idah,”, authored by Abu al-Yaman Shams al-Din Muhammad ibn Amir Hajj al-Hanafi (d. 879 AH). The significance of this study lies in the fact that the issue discussed represents an additional juristic question derived from the verse, which was addressed by a distinguished jurist and legal theorist, one of the leading Hanafi scholars of his time. Moreover, the manuscript has neither been previously edited nor published, which increases its scholarly value. The primary aim of the research is to introduce the manuscript and its related aspects. Therefore, the study begins with an introductory section explaining its importance, the reasons for selecting it, and the methodology followed in its critical edition. This is followed by a brief introduction to the author and the content of his response. The research problem focuses on analyzing Ibn Amir Hajj’s answer and presenting it in a scholarly manner using a descriptive-analytical approach. The findings show that this concise response is a valuable contribution to legal theory, particularly in deriving rulings from the verse of ablution. It relies on evidence, reasoning, and contextual indicators. The study also highlights the importance of compiling Ibn Amir Hajj’s works and examining legal verses such as the Verse of Ablution and their juristic implications.
