The Implementation Level of the 5S Methodology in Private Hospitals in Dhamar City: A Field Study 10.35781/1637-000-168-003

Abstract

Abstract This study aimed to identify the reality of implementing the 5S methodology—comprising its five dimensions: Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain—within private hospitals in Dhamar City. It also sought to detect statistically significant differences in the respondents' perspectives based on their demographic and professional variables. To achieve these objectives, the study employed a descriptive-analytical approach, utilizing a questionnaire as the primary data collection tool. The instrument was administered to a purposive sample of (95) medical and administrative staff members, and the collected data were statistically analyzed using SPSS. The study found that the overall level of 5S implementation in the surveyed hospitals was High, with a mean score of (3.55). At the dimensional level, "Sort" ranked first, followed by "Shine," then "Set in Order" and "Sustain" respectively, while "Standardize" ranked last; notably, all dimensions achieved a high-level rating. Furthermore, the results indicated no statistically significant differences in the implementation level attributable to the variables of (Hospital, Age, Job Title, and Years of Experience). However, statistically significant differences were found regarding Academic Qualification, in favor of Bachelor’s degree holders compared to those with Master's or Doctoral degrees. Based on these findings, the study recommended the necessity of enhancing digital transformation in quality documentation to develop the "Standardize" dimension. It also suggested activating incentive systems linked to field performance to ensure the "Sustainment" of the methodology, in addition to capitalizing on the proficiency of the executive staff (Bachelor’s holders) by empowering them as leaders for field improvement teams within the researched healthcare organizations.
