Abstract

Title of the Study: Manuscript Qurʾānic Codices and Their Impact on the Sciences of the Qurʾān: The Science of Rasm al-Muṣḥaf as a Model Research Objectives: 1- To highlight the precedence of Muslim scholars in preserving and studying manuscripts, particularly the ʿUthmānic codices. 2- To investigate the influence of Qurʾānic manuscript codices on the development of Qurʾānic sciences. 3- To clarify the epistemological interrelation between Qurʾānic manuscripts and the science of rasm al-muṣḥaf (Qurʾānic orthography). Methodology: The study adopts both analytical and descriptive approaches. It collects and analyzes the scholarly efforts related to Qurʾānic manuscripts, and provides descriptive case studies of selected examples. Key Findings: 1- The study confirms the significance of preserving and publishing Qurʾānic manuscripts. 2- demonstrates the urgent need for comparative studies between the principles of ʿUthmānic orthography and the manuscript tradition. 3- It underscores the role of early scholars in linking the principles of ʿUthmānic orthography with extant Qurʾānic manuscripts.
