Abstract
Abstract This research presents an analytical and objective study of the verses of seeking permission (al-isti’idhān) found in Surah Al-Nūr, as one of the most important Quranic texts that regulate social relations and preserve the sanctity and privacy of homes. The study explores the concept of seeking permission from linguistic and legal perspectives, clarifies its rulings, purposes, and wisdoms, and examines the interpretations of classical exegetes and jurists, supported by evidence from the Qur’an and Sunnah. It also discusses the etiquettes of seeking permission when entering homes and within them, identifies the cases in which permission is obligatory, and highlights the exceptions and contemporary applications related to modern habits and means of communication. The research concludes with several findings emphasizing that seeking permission is a noble Islamic ethic that protects privacy, preserves moral boundaries, and fosters social tranquility, and that it remains a necessary value in modern society despite the advancement of means and technologies.
