The Degree of Possessing Teaching Competencies for Physical Education Teachers Considering some Demographic Variables

Abstract

This study aimed to identify instructional competencies of the physical education teachers, as well as investigating the differences in the degree of possession of teaching competencies according to the variables of (Qualification, gender, rexperience, educational qualification, place of residence, specialization). The researcher used the descriptive analytical approach, and questionnaires as a tool for data collection, which was applied to a sample of (537) intentionally selected physical education, teachers, supervisors, and principals of public and private schools in Sana’a and the capital city. The results of the study concluded that physical education teachers in the schools of the capital city and Sana’a possess a high degree of teaching competencies. The results also showed that teachers of specialization of (Physical Education) have higher teaching competencies than those non-specialists, and that private school teachers possess a higher degree of teaching competencies comparing to public school teachers. Based on these results, the study recommended the need to develop and improve the teaching competencies of physical education teachers by involving them in additional training sessions and education courses.
