This study aimed to identify the degree of mastery of mathematical proficiency components among mathematics students at the Faculty of Education – Seiyun University. To achieve this aim, the researcher employed the descriptive approach on a sample consisting of (21) mathematics students at the Faculty of Education – Seiyun University, who were selected using a proportional stratified random sampling method.


The researcher developed a test to measure cognitive mathematical proficiency and a questionnaire to measure productive disposition. To answer the research questions, several statistical methods were employed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), including means and standard deviations.


The findings revealed that the overall degree of students’ mastery of cognitive mathematical proficiency was low, with a mean score of (13.62). In contrast, the overall degree of their mastery of productive disposition domains was moderate, with a mean score of (3.31).


In light of these findings, the study recommended equipping mathematics laboratories in faculties of education to support faculty members in utilizing technologies and instructional tools that enhance students’ mathematical proficiency. It also recommended incorporating the concept and skills of mathematical proficiency into mathematics teaching methods courses in faculties of education at Yemeni universities, in a way that contributes to improving mathematics teaching practices in reality.
